The J.C. Keppie Co., now in it's fourth generation, was founded in 1946 by John C. Keppie. Growing over the years, the J.C. Keppie Co. purchased the Kiger Co. in late 1991. Keppie Kiger is a long standing member of the American Gem Society, the only jewelry industry organization dedicated to knowledge, ethics and consumer protection.  

Keppie Kiger's officers have been involved in designing and refining the AGS's Diamond Grading Standards, particularly the Cut Grading Standards. These standards evolved into the AGS Laboratory's Cut Grading system. In this system, the best Cut Grade for a round diamond is described as "AGS 0 Ideal".
